Ultra Bak is a food source for bacteria commonly found in saltwater aquariums. It allows for beneficial bacteria to grow rapidly and convert unwanted nutrients such as Nitrite, Nitrate and Phosphate into biomass. This biomass is then consumed by corals and removed by a protein skimmer. Most corals can also directly utilize Ultra Bak as an energy source. When combined with Ultra Lith and Ultra Min S, it provides a safe and easy method for maintaining a low-nutrient environment.
Ultra Bak also benefits live rock and Zeolite filters by making them more effective in breaking down and removing unwanted nitrogen compounds.
Ultra Bak is suitable for aquariums with or without Zeolite filtration.
- Ultra Bak should be dosed daily using a syringe or dosing pump.
- 2 – 5 ml per 1000 L / 250 gal
- Dosage amounts will depend on nutrient concentration and livestock density. Please do all changes in the aquarium slowly and carefully!
In older tanks with high nutrient concentrations please reduce phosphate concentrations with Ultra Phos before using Ultra Bak. Reduce the dose of Ultra Bak by 75 % and increase the dose every two weeks by 10 %. Monitor your water parameters very carefully. If a coating of slimy film grows on the glass and/or the rocks, the dose is too high.
